With Valentine's Day right around the corner, Luv You Mean It Oddities, is a great boutique to find a unique gift. Located on A1A across from the St. Augustine Pier, unique, shabby chic and mostly local, LYMI Oddities' inventory is 70% made from local artists. From jewelry to refurbished furniture and open since May of 2014 , owner Cindy Davegos has made a huge effort in building a larger client base for the local artists of St. Augustine. South Beach Grill: New Menu Items!

Chef Carlos Davidson

South Beach Grill, a St. Augustine landmark of beachside dining for over 15 years, has recently added some new menu items brining a little twist to an already stellar selection of lunch and dinner entrees. Chef Carlos Davidson having 19 years experience has really put a lot of thought, creativity, and time into bringing new flavors to their customers. Having  spent time traveling after graduating Culinary School in Tallahassee, Davidson really expanded his cooking horizons in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was able to cook under several chefs." New Orleans is where I leaned so much about cooking, I would say I have a lot of creole in my cooking background," which reflects in the menu.

Portobello Mushroom Tacos
But lets talk about the new menu items that St. Aug Blog was more than happy to sample. A fresh in house Hummus Platter topped with avocado has been added to the appetizers served with toasted pita points. Among the lunch items , Portobello Mushroom Tacos with Sriracha Remoulade , Thai Shrimp Tacos, Beach Belo Sandwich- a large Portobello Mushroom Cap seared with house creole seasonings, and an Arugula Salad has been added that is topped with tomato, cucumbers, avocado, smoked bacon, and a goat and feta cheese combination. As for the dinner additions, you will find Southern Pan Fried Fish n Grits ( served with cheddar grits and fresh local Mahi-Mahi), Orzo St. Augustine which is tossed in capers , Manzanilla olives, grape tomatoes, garlic and fish fumet, and for those who enjoy a little spice for your pallet, the Asian Noodle Bowl will be up your alley, which is served with bell peppers, onions, carrots and tossed in Thai Peanut Sauce and Sriracha.

Asian Noodle Bowl
Bringing St. Augustine fresh local seafood for years and nearly one of the only restaurants located on the actual beach, there is something for everyone at South Beach Grill. Great view, great food and great service. St. Aug Blog asked Davidson what his goals were not only as a Chef but for the South Beach Grill to which he replied, " I just want South Beach Grill to be the best beachside eatery it can be. I am proud to say that we serve excellent fresh local seafood and that we are able to continue pleasing are customers throughout the years."

Sporkalicious! A review of Sporks Food Truck

Located on 2135 A1A South on St. Augustine Beach , Sporks is the newest edition to the Food Truck scene. Father and son , owners Benk and Miles Dagevos have embarked on a new business venture together , making their mark on the food truck frontier that slowly but surely is coming to fruition in St. Augustine. "It took us 4 months to get all the permitting and licensing for Sporks," Miles recalls. A reality   that all food trucks in the area have faced , but luckily have not discouraged.

The inspiration for the name of the food truck was quite simple. They wanted something short and catchy, hence, Sporks it was. Having only been operating for 3 weeks or so, Sporks found their own niche that sets them apart from the others, a rotating menu. Everyday, the specials change to whatever fresh ingredients Miles and Benk can get their hands on. Even the type of salsa they use is made fresh and different daily , a salsa du jour if you will. With Benk having been in the restaurant business since the 80's and Miles having 9 years experience , the collaboration is nothing short of delicious.

St. Aug Blog was fortunate enough sample one of their daily specials which was true to their mission, unique, delicious, and cooked to perfection. Cuban Pork Sliders with Minorcan Mustard and side of BACON Mac and Cheese topped with Miles' signature sauce, Hay Bale Sauce. He would not reveal the ingredients so I suppose you will have to stop by and try it for yourself! When asked how he came up with different sauces and salsas Miles simply said, " I just wing it. I usually take a recipe and then switch out an ingredient for another and just see what happens."

Other specials that Sporks has featured are Pulled Pork, Pot Roast Sliders , Chick Parmesan Sliders ,Chicken Pesto Sliders, Gumbo, Chili , Fried Onion Burger , and they will usually have some sort of local fish tacos on the menu for all you taco enthusiasts. Sides also rotate , but you will surely find Bacon Mac and Cheese, Costa Rican beans and rice ( topped with Lizano!) , and using corn tortillas , made to order chips with fresh salsa. All of these specials are in the 8$ range. Great fresh food with a side, you just can't beat it. But the question I know everyone is waiting for...do they actually have one of the most innovative eating utensils ever introduced to mankind? Yes! Sporks for everyone! "If you can't eat it with a spork we're not serving it, no just kidding!" That's a little Benk Dagevos joke. Sporks is open Tuesday through Saturday form 11 A.M. till dusk. Seating is provided. Dine at or take out! A wonderful new addition to St. Augustine Beach, truly a must!

This could be partly to setting goals too high or maybe stress or just life's day to day activities that cause distractions. Whatever the reasons may be luckily with today's technology there are useful apps that can keep us on track.
