Getting Funky in 2016! Funkytown Fitness - Reaching your fitness goals and having fun!

The first month of 2016 is already coming to an end and you realize you still have yet to begin your "eating healthier", "getting in shape", "I'm gonna work out everyday" resolutions that your swore to yourself would begin January 1st! But let's get serious this is in fact is a whole lot easier said than done. Getting motivated to lead a healthy lifestyle sometimes takes more than just yourself, sometimes it takes a community. 
Fortunately for YOU St. Augustine there is a place where motivation and fitness meets FUN! Funkytown Fitness located in the Riverside Center off of State Road 312 is a fitness studio owned and operated by Heidi Pidcock and Beth Morucci. Open since November of 2013 Funkytown Fitness is a fitness studio that offers a number of fitness classes that promotes a positive and healthy lifestyle with a funky twist! Both Pidcock and Morucci having been in the fitness world since 1995 have been fitness instructors in St. Augustine with a huge following for years. As the two became more and more popular for their hip and trending classes , their work out rooms became extremely crowded! "We realized that these people were paying for memberships just to take our classes and they weren't even using the gym!" says Pidcock. Thus an idea was born to create a place where all types of classes were offered in a studio setting. Here is a quick description of the classes that they offer:

Ballin’

Utilizing the Stability Ball for strengthening, conditioning and cardiovascular benefits, this class takes a unique fun approach to fitness. This class will assist in balance, tone, agility and strength. You will feel the benefits of this class, like no other.

Body Pump

Develop strength and endurance in major muscle groups using barbells with adjustable weights. Easy to follow moves for all fitness levels set to motivating music make this class a winner!

BoogieDown Bootcamp

Full body workout incorporating strength training with high intensity interval training. Modifications are offered for all fitness levels.

Gentle Groove Yoga

Breathe & Stretch through various postures relaxing the mind & body. Improve flexibility, balance and breathing in this gentle yoga flow. Great for beginners!

PiYO

Who says you have to jump, grunt, strain, and punish your body to get amazing results from your workout? Not with PiYo…PiYo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga. And, we crank up the speed to deliver a true fat-burning, low-impact workout that leaves your body looking long, lean, and incredibly defined.

Pound

A full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, Pilates, isometric movements, plyometrics and Isometric poses into a 45-minute series. Strengthen and sculpt infrequently used muscles, and drum your way to a leaner, slimmer physique – all while rocking out to your favorite music!

Step, Kick & Core

This cardio/strength combination class alternates strength exercises to work every major muscle group, with easy to follow cardio moves incorporating one or more of the following: step, kick boxing, & cardio drills. The stability ball will be used for core and stretching.

Solid Gold Stretch

Strengthen and lengthen your muscles in this low impact toning class, with light weights and stretching.

Studio Sculpt

Work your muscles in every way possible in this class designed to build strength, add definition, increase bone density, and decrease body fat.

Superfly Spin

Traditional indoor cycling class offering a non-impact, highly effective way to build cardiovascular strength and endurance. Designed for all levels, burn serious calories and be ready to sweat. Water and a towel are a must for this Superfly workout!

Superfly Spin & Sculpt

Superfly Spin combined with strength training exercises for a perfect combination of cardio and toning!

Triple Play

Three workouts in one! 20 minutes of core, 20 minutes of strength training, 20 minutes of cardio. It’s a total body workout!

Yin Yoga

Restore and relax your body in this gentle yoga class. The passive postures will allow the deep layers of constricted tissues to unblock through its gentle pressure on the fascia, particularly around the hips and lower back. The slow pace creates a restful, nourishing yoga experience.

Zumba®

Party yourself into shape! ZUMBA fitness is a highly addictive, easy dance workout that not only gets your body in shape but is FUN!!… Dance to a fusion of international rhythms! Great class for all fitness levels!!

Zumba Toning®

ZUMBA mixed with body sculpting. Use lightweight weights to tone your body, including arms, abs, and thighs. The perfect way to sculpt your body naturally while having a blast!

Zumba® & Zen

Zumba followed by a full body stretch to help increase flexibility and range of motion. Leave the class in a Zen state of mind!

For the year 2016 Funkytown will be adding more options. They will be offering personal training , one on one or small group training. Additionally they will be offering fitness assessments by Angie Bascom who is  health coach and nurse practitioner . With the assessment you can figure out which meal plan would work best with you and how to achieve your healthy life style goals. 
Funkytown Fitness is a wonderful addition to St. Augustine! You can sign up for a membership or just pay for a class or two to try it out!
